Is anyone out there still reading blogs? Just in case, so I thought it would be a good time to explain why I changed my social media accounts to Euphrosyne Corner Farm.
As with all good ventures, a time comes when it must be named. Originally we planned to name our little homestead farm Opus Ludus Farming- a Latin play on my blog name (it means Work & Play Farming). After all, to us, this felt like an extension of the life we were already living. Then we came across something that we all agreed was the most perfect fit- Euphrosyne Corner Farm.
Towards Joy
While our daughter Siena’s short life was painfully difficult at times, we would not be where we are today without the lessons she taught us. When we think back, it is not sadness but joy that fills our hearts. To love someone that unconditionally is a life changing event that I wish all could experience. Maybe that sounds a bit morbid, and if you could experience it without the great suffering it involved I would certainly wish that- but it was truly the suffering that made it so powerful and transformative.
Our Siena was named after St. Catherine of Siena because we were welcomed into the Catholic Church at St. Catherine of Siena Parish & Newman Center during our time in Utah. It was only through leaning on our faith in Christ that we were able to persevere during those difficult days. It was only through the teachings of our Catholic faith that we were able to find the freedom to celebrate the dignity of her life in all of its brevity.
A couple years ago, during a women’s study group I learned that as a child St. Catherine of Siena was such a joyful child that her parents nicknamed her little Euphrosyne. Euphrosyne was/is a Greek name indicating joy. In fact, there is actually a St. Euphrosyne that would have been well known in that time and place in history! (St. Euphrosyne faked her own death to hide from her father in order to become a Christian- talk about holy boldness!)

For us, a turning towards joy in all circumstances. The cornerstone of our new-old family life and our ever-present prayer for all of you.
So what’s next? Well, if you are mostly interested in Montessori or homeschool or pregnancy and infant loss, none of those websites are going away in this space. Our social media will probably look a lot like it has for the last couple years just with the new name. In other words- don’t run away just because you aren’t interested in homesteading and farming! Work and Play, Day by Day has always represented just that- our daily life of both work and play. Homeschooling and family life, including pregnancy and infant loss, remain at the center of those things.
That said, we are diving into farming harder over the next several years. We learned a lot of basics the past couple years (yet we are still oh-so green, so know that if you stick around there will be some humorous moments) – we know some things we have to offer others and some things that are not worth our time or money right now. This is truly a family affair.
